Trail days

Trail Days. Where to begin? 

We shuttled back down to Damascus on Thursday afternoon and walked around, saw hikers we knew, met new hikers, and swiped free stuff no one really needs. Thursday night was full of live music and beers. It was great to be able to see everyone and all be in the same place. 

Friday and Sat we did more festivaly things. I won a camp pillow in a raffle and watched a talent show. The girl who won did a pretty amusing interpretive dance to Katy Perry which ended with we mooning the entire audience. Sat night was another Bon fire night where we stayed up way past bed time. You can probably tell by my lack of effort in writing that I still do not feel like a real person. 

AWOL, who writes the guide book most often used on the trail had a booth set up where hikers could pin where they were at on the trail. My group is in that big bubble right now - picture below. It was cool to see the waves of people. 

The only downer of the weekend which some people may have seen on the news was an accident at the hiker parade. Yes, there is a hiker parade. There were at least 400 hikers, past and current, walking down the street and the people on the side squirt them with water guns. Im still not exactly sure what happened but an elderly man somehow managed to run over some hikers. My group is all ok but we were only about 20 feet away and could see hikers trying to lift up the car. They had to bring in 3 helicopters and there were a slew of other emergency vehicles.
